Jazz East is run by Rob Palmer and aims to bring the very best in live modern jazz to Felixstowe. Each week Rob teams up with some of the best drummers, pianists, guitarists and horn players in the county to form the 'house trio', which supports the various national jazz musicians that headline at to the club. When ever possible Jazz East brings you complete all star groups too!
Rob Palmer has been playing bass for over 30 years, and has performed in everything from New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands to contemporary avant garde music. Having long ago committed himself to Jazz as an electric bass player, he then took up the mantle on the double bass too.
Rob continues to feature as part of singer guitarist Gione Antony’s ‘Braziliance’ quartet and Tim Ainslee's band, as well as performing with a range of East Coast jazz musicians. As a composer, Rob regularly features his own tunes performing alongside drummer Russ Morgan and saxophonist / flautist Myke Clifford in his own ensemble 'trio East'. Rob has performed and recorded with some of the leading British jazz musicians including Jim Mullen, Iain Ballamy, Stan Sultzman, Steve Waterman, Janusz Carmello, Dave DeFries, Tim Whitehead, Roy Williams and Robin Jones' Latin Jazz sextet. His ambition is to play with one of these guys twice!
When he's not busy playing music, Rob is researching and writing about it. His is a published author and his biography 'Mr. P.C.: the life and music of Paul Chambers', available from Equinox Publishing, won the 2013 'Best History' Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research from the Association of Recorded Sound Collections. It was also selected as a 2012 'Book of the Year' by the New York Jazz Record.
